My diary cover

I have finally managed to cover my daily diary, yes I keep a daily one as well as my blog.
this is a brown paper bag crumpled and painted with copper acrylic paint, then crumpled again, bonded to a piece of calico and a stamp pad rubbed over the top of the crumples, olive green in color. I found the bits of lace I had painted and attached to pelmet vylene and beaded which I cut around and hand sewed onto the front.
Fun to do on a hot day like today.
I shopped early this morning and felt a bit like a wrung out dish rag.
I bought a cork board at the cheap shop and some stackable shelving so those were put up and in my work room as well. Found homes for the children's books and brought the Sunset Studio's into the top opf the book case, so pretty busy.
Over 30 degrees in Adelaide for the next week and tomorrow I go up to celebrate a friends 70th Birthday and it will be 39 so they say, 38 down here which means hotter again out in the valley.
Lucky Tony going over to kangaroo island for the week end, not so lucky those going to Womadelaide and the festival fringe. This is a long week end for the local Adelaide cup horse race, I pity the horses on this hard ground.

The really messy workroom

this is my sewing room and it is really messy, sometimes not so bad but at the moment, well a few works in progress.
It is a small room and I have problems trying to take photos in it.
The first is from the door straight in, the second across my work table and missing the window to the wardrobe and the third is of some of my stash, this is where I cant get it all in the photo.
Is it any wonder I dont buy any more material at the moment.
I have two pfaff sewing machines, one a very old one and one the little hobby that I take to classes and does the best fme and then the Janome xpression.
I think I should de stash a bit more, I havent taken what is on the floor!
Home from Adelaide where the car at times registered over 40 degrees, Victor it dropped to 23 and out here 31, we are always hotter than Victor.
A very tiring day but everything we had to do got done.

Sorting work room no 2

the first photo is of the little cupboard i bought for $15 and john spent a lot more re doing. It finally came in today (and is my back aching!) and I sort of sorted that room out, it is where I do my cutting out and stamping and painting, no not the watercolors, they are in the sun room, this room faces south and the light is not very good. There is a bed and huge wardrobe in there but the wardrobe is full of our clothes and the bed is covere d in 'stuff' at the moment. I did manage to re hang most of the paintings at cost to life and limb. As you can see lots of plastic containers and paper bags holding more stuff.
I have a bit more room but dont ask me where. Tomorrow i will put up the horror workroom, my sewing room, I tidied up one cupboard today in there!
I still need another decent bookcase somewhere, the hall if I can find room.
Very hot today at least 38 degrees out here and we are in Adelaide tomorrow where no doubt it will be hotter again.

work in progress

This is scanned and I will have to take a photo when it is finally finished as the scan doesnt come up very well.
I need to do some beading around her head and add a few more bits.
Basically I was fiddling with some embellished stuff and didnt like it so I cut it up and wove it togehter, did some hand stitching and still didnt look like anything useful so cut it in half, found a face and hand and foot and thought it had possibilities so added red to black felt and a circle of left over foiled felt. I like this cutting up idea and am having fun with it.
Got a parcel from Dale at The Thread Studio today with Sarah Lawrence's Wild Woman book, basically it is what doll makers have been doing for ages but in a really fun way, making doll themed brooches. Doll makers tend to call them pins.

TIF Challenge and this mornings walk

The TIF challenge for March that Sharonb has given us are as far as I can tell these colors, they are not all dmc two are semco ones that I thought looked closer to the colors than the ones I had in dmc.
Her other challenge was small things, somehow I keep thinking of ants and as they are to go into my book about my mother perhaps her battle with them in various kitchens over the years might be appropriate. Rather more thought before I start.
It is warming up again so John and I were up and out early this morning to get into Victor Harbor and walk the beach before doing the various things we had to do. So the first one is a very different looking beach weather wise but the same one, as I did last week.
The second one was taken after we had finished the stuff we had to do in Victor and had a coffee on the Whalers Inn balcony and watched the earth works that are going on for the new boat ramp and surrounds. All quite interesting but I cant remember exactly what the plan it, deeper channel and a bit more area for parking.
John is trying to fix up the small cupboard I bought for $15 I think now it has had at least as much as that again spent on it plus time and a lot of swearing!

Danglies

I think I have put these up before but I am trying to finish them off and I get about one and a half done at night while I am watching tv.
Another busy day, we had to go to a political fund raising lunch today and the food was very slow coming, quite nice catching up with a few people we hadnt seen for ages but a bit of a waste of a lovely afternoon.
Workshop on the Web was up today so I also spent time downloading it. some really good things i want to try.
My walk didnt happen but I was pretty busy this morning getting a few mundane things done, but these little things are going to take me at least another week to do.
The morning was very like autumn, I could hear a young kookaburra trying to learn how to laugh and various birds I hadnt heard for a while cool and autumny but this afternoon and the next few days were and will be hot again.

Somehow this says it all

Oscar rolling in the dirt, after being confined inside for a few days, a dry dam and dry paddocks.
Not much rain, warming up garden dying.
But, today I went to an art lesson and had a lovely day, see my boots and sketchbook blog.
